After you have the acreage leased, the geologist will determine the optimal site for the well to be drilled. Before a well can be drilled, it must be staked and registered with the state. That job is performed by a surveyor. At that time a contractor is selected to prepare the well site and drill the well.
Before the drilling rig can be moved onto location, the site will have to be leveled and an access road will have to be built. There are two methods of building the location and road. One is to build a road with a bulldozer and gravel. The other is to build a board road.
A reserve pit will have to be dug to contain the drill cuttings and other chemicals that are used in the drilling process.
